Region IV notice of mail delivery change for absentee in-person ballots for the 2026 REAA and General Election September 16, 2026The Division of Elections is announcing that, for the next two elections, absentee‑in‑person return mail from the Region IV Office will be rerouted to the Region II Office in Anchorage to prevent unexpected mail delays. Due to the uncertainty with mail in rural Alaska during the Primary Election, some absentee in-person voted ballots were received after the election results were certified on August 31. This mail delivery delay affected approximately 75 absentee in-person ballots from Region IV. Per Alaska state law, notices have been sent to voters. Early vote ballots are not subject to mail transit issues because voter eligibility is verified at the time of voting in regional offices and early voting locations. Absentee‑in‑person ballots, however, must still be mailed to the regional office, where they are reviewed by regional staff and the Absentee Review Board to confirm voter eligibility. Please remember the Alaska Division of Elections is committed to supporting voting access for all Alaskans and working on solutions for the diverse needs of rural Alaska. Region IV voter inquiries and concerns are always welcome at the Region IV Office: electionsr4@alaska.gov or 1-866-953-8683 / 907-443-5285.
