After three decades, elections supervisor says good-bye May 23, 2025After 30 years of service, Juneau Region 1 Supervisor Lauri Wilson will be retiring from the Alaska Division of Elections this week. Lauri Wilson (center with glasses) Wilson became the Region 1 Supervisor in 2013, and before she leaves she is expressing her gratitude for her staff’s dedication to serving voters in their communities. She stated that it has been a pleasure getting to know them, and she will miss them dearly. “As Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz would say, ‘I’ll miss you the most,’ is what I will say to my staff at the Region 1 Office and within the division,” Wilson said. In her retirement, Wilson plans to spend time with her family, enjoy outdoor adventures, and focus on her passion for gardening with an emphasis on “Farm to Table.” “I look forward to this new blank canvas and filling it with fun and new experiences,” Wilson shared. She began her career at the Division of Elections as temporary staff in the absentee program under the supervision of Gail Fenumiai. Wilson eventually became a full-time permanent staff member in late 1996 and worked her way up to the position of regional supervisor. Reflecting on her time with the Division of Elections, Director Carol Beecher and Operations Manager Michaela Thompson commented that nothing is more essential to running an effective program than having skilled, experienced, and dedicated staff who invest their time and energy to understand and apply sound policies and practices. “Lauri Wilson is that essential person—her enormous contributions to the Alaska Elections Program will remain her legacy long after she departs to explore other adventures,” they stated. Both emphasized that losing her will leave a “lasting hole” in the division for years to come, but they wish her all the best in her retirement.
