GOVERNOR - LT. GOVERNOR RACE
Alaska regulations mandate that the Division of Elections count write-in votes for individual candidates if the votes for "write-in" are the second highest in number in a race that has two or more candidates. This happened in the race for Governor/Lt. Governor in the 1998 General Election. Following is the unofficial breakdown.
| WRITE-IN NAMES FOR GOVERNOR / LT. GOV. | TOTAL VOTES | % OF WRITE-IN VOTES | % OF TOTAL VOTES CAST |
|---|---|---|---|
| Robin Taylor * | 35,263 | 80.90% | 17.60% |
| Robin Taylor / Jerry Ward | 4,204 | 9.60% | 2.10% |
| Robin Taylor / Misc. | 742 | 1.70% | 0.04% |
| Wayne Ross * | 676 | 1.60% | 0.34% |
| Wayne Ross / Misc. | 125 | 0.29% | 0.06% |
| Nick Begich * | 553 | 1.30% | 0.30% |
| Nick Begich / Misc. | 26 | 0.06% | 0.01% |
| Miscellaneous | 2,000 | 4.60% | 0.10% |
* Please note that by reporting the totals for candidates without a Lt. Governor as a running mate, the Division of Elections is not assuming that ballots cast in this manner would be considered legally valid. That is a matter that would need to be resolved by law or in the courts.
