STATEMENT:

We Alaskans have accomplished quite a lot over the last four years. We have made state government smaller and smarter through over $200 million in responsible budget cuts. We've seen unprecedented post-pipeline expansion of our economy and we've addressed the gross inequities that have kept us from properly funding our schools. Our juvenile justice system has been reformed, we've resisted an income tax and our Permanent Fund has flourished.

Though we are doing things right for the first time in a long time we must not get complacent. We must never forget our wealth does not come from some government program, but rather from our resources and the opportunities they create. Our future and the future of our children depends on our ability to expand the horizon of opportunity for everyday wage earners and business people. If we just get out of their way Alaskans can do anything.

Fairbanks needs a senator who is optimistic about the future. Someone who is able to do more than just talk about the way things should be, but actually gets things done. Someone who believes that prosperity is not the result of a program or a policy but on our own hard work and the opportunities we create for ourselves.
