My continued pledge to you is to represent the best
interests of my constituents and to maintain personal
contact through public hearings, newsletters, questionnaires,
correspondence and telephone calls.
Local improvement will again be a high priority. I will
continue to work closely with other members of our
legislative delegation in securing funds for schools and roads.
Prime Sponsor of the re-write of the School Foundation Formula
funding legislation. As result of passage of this legislation,
our children in the Anchorage School District will benefit in
a lower pupil to teacher ratio in the classroom.
I will continue to fight for fiscal responsibility, which
means a level of state spending that does not exceed revenues.
I will continue to protect the integrity of the Permanent Fund.
Encourage responsible economic development. Open ANWR with
environmental safeguards. Continue to broaden Alaska's economic
base by fostering a business climate for fishing, tourism, mining
and timber industries.
I have been instrumental in implementing Alaska/Canada legislative
cooperation between Alaska, Yukon, Northwest Territories and
British Columbia to work on mutual interests such as 1996 Arctic
Winter Games held in Eagle River, ANWR, tourism, wildlife
management and fisheries.
