STATEMENT:

I feel honored by the community's trust in allowing me to continue as Superior Court Judge in Barrow since 1982. This election is the chance for voters in North and Northwest Alaska to decide if I should continue to serve. If you agree, I would be proud to do so.

The citizens of Barrow, including everyone involved in the justice system, have gone through a lot of changes over the last few years. The "damp vs. dry" votes about alcohol have had strong impacts on our caseload. A new development is the opportunity to work alongside new tribal courts and community courts. I am looking forward to a time of cooperation as we all adapt to these changes.

I believe we can and should all work together to have the services to keep our community safe and to have a justice system that is relevant and understandable. Sensitivity and respect for all the cultures in our community are a must. I am doing my best to have court hearings and decisions that are based on knowledge of the law, respect for all participants (including families, jurors, witnesses, victims and defendants), sensitivity to the needs of children, and firmness when the time is right.

I am humbled by the responsibility of the decisions a Superior Court Judge is required to make. With prayer and study, and with continued active involvement in the community, I hope to continue as your Superior Court Judge.
