STATEMENT:

My first term of office was very successful. As Chairman of Oil and Gas, many important pieces of legislation, creating jobs and business were pushed through the legislative system. Local jobs will be created in Cook Inlet by the Royalty Reduction Bill. This legislation reduced royalties in six specific oil and gas fields that have been unproductive for over 20 years. Thousands of Alaskan jobs and billions of dollars in state and local revenues will be created with the North Slope Gas Line bill.

Working with other legislators on the rewrite of the educational formula bill will bring much needed extra dollars to Kenai Peninsula classrooms. This new funding formula means more education dollars in future years and was responsible for a Kenai Peninsula Borough tax reduction this year.

Many area road construction projects such as rebuilding sections of K-Beach Road and repaving and widening the Spur Highway to Nikiski, including a bike path from Island Lake Road to Lamplight Road, will start soon.

We cut the state operating budget while increasing dollars to child protection and health programs. A personal achievement was acquiring funding for the new Kenai Community Health Center.

My 30 years of small business ownership, thousands of hours of volunteer community service, five years on the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly and two years in the Alaska State Legislature gives me an excellent background to continue doing a great job for you in Juneau.

Thank you very much for your vote and continued support.
