Candidate Withdrawal

Legal References

  • In accordance to Alaska Statute 15.25.055, to withdraw as a candidate for a primary election, your request must be received no later than 52 days prior to the Primary Election.
  • In accordance with 15.25.200 and 15.35.135, to withdraw as a candidate for a general election, your request must be received no later than 64 days prior to the General Election.
  • When withdrawing as a candidate, your filing fee will not be refunded.
  • If a candidate who won in the Primary Election for a recognized political party withdraws on or before the 64th day prior to the General Election, the recognized political party may nominate a replacement candidate following Alaska Statute 15.25.110 - 15.25.130 no later than the 64th day prior to the General Election.

Withdrawal Letter

When submitting a withdrawal letter, a candidate must provide:
  • A statement that they wish to withdraw from office and the seat name they wish to withdraw from.
  • Their signature and date.
  • Contact telephone number.
  • You can used the Notice of Withdrawal or create your own letter.
