Official Election Pamphlet --
Absentee Voting
By Fax / In Person / By Personal Representative
If you are unable to go to your polling place on Election Day, but will be in Alaska on or two
weeks before September 14, you may want to vote Absentee in Person or Absentee by Personal
Representative. If you are unable to vote by one of these methods and you were not able to
apply in time to vote Absentee by Mail, you may want to consider voting Absentee by Fax.
ABSENTEE BY FAX
Absentee by Fax voting should be your last alternative for casting your ballot. You must fill
out and return an application in order to receive an absentee ballot by fax. The application
period begins on August 30 and your completed application must be received by 5:00 p.m. Alaska
Time on September 13. To request an absentee by fax application, call (907) 465-4611. If you
choose to return your voted ballot by fax, you voluntarily waive a portion of your right to a
secret ballot.
ABSENTEE IN PERSON
Beginning August 30 you may vote
Absentee in Person
at any of the regional election offices or other absentee voting sites established by the
regional supervisors. Absentee Voting Officials will have ballots for their particular voting
district(s). Absentee Voting Stations will have ballots for all 40 voting districts.
ABSENTEE BY PERSONAL REPRESENTATIVE
A qualified voter who is physically disabled may apply for an absentee ballot through a personal
representative who can bring the ballot to the voter. A voter must apply before he or she can
receive a ballot. A personal representative can be anyone over 18, except a candidate for
office in the election, the voter’s employer, an agent of the voter’s employer, or an officer or
agent of the voter’s union.
